Isabel Villaescusa

Isabel Villaescusa (Barcelona, 14/06/1952): graduated in Chemistry at the Universitat de Barcelona (1986) and doctorate at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (1993).

Professor of Chemical Engineering, Agricultural and Food Technology of the Universitat de Girona. Since 1986 she has been teaching several courses of Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry.  Her research focused on: metal toxicity by using Microtox and other biological models and  Biosorption of metals and organics by using agro-food residues. At present she is undertaking a new project dealing with the green synthesis of metal nanoparticles by using the extract of agro-food wastes. She is the responsible of the research group Metals and Environment of the Universitat de Girona since 2000.

She has been the main researcher of several research projects being the most recent: Development of a pilot plant for cleansing wastewaters contaminated with metals by using agro-food wastes (ref. CTM2012-37215-C02-01) funded by Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad  (duration 2012-2015) and Green Synthesis of metal nanoparticles from acid mine drainage (ref. CTM2015-68859-C2-1-R) funded by the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (duration 2015-2018).

She is associated editor of the journal Environmental Chemistry Letters.

She is co-author of more than 80 papers in international high impact and attended to numerous congresses as participant or as invited speaker. During the last 5 years:
